Luan Del Savio

Luan Del Savio (1989) is a designer, trained in industrial design and specialist in production engineering.
Observing the confluence of areas in the optimization of products that revere the maximum expression of form and function that begins their work with pieces of furniture. His work is contemporary: allying the creative emotion with the rationality of production adds a unique complicity to each drawing. At the same time that they are filled with soul, the use of resources and inventive thinking consider sustainability with equal importance. Light, modern lines and clean design characterize the shapes portrayed. The Brazilian singularity arrives in the curves, in the swing that the veins of natural wood print. Wood and steel are, by the way, the protagonists, a game between life and resistance in the metaphor of materials that bend, curve and surrender to the energy of what the design will become.
Del Savio believes that furniture needs to cause some kind of emotion to the user, so functionality and elegance are dressed in purity and simplicity, opening interpretations for plural projects.

Interview

1) When we look at your pieces, what do we see in each of them? What is your main characteristic as a designer?

I look for the simplicity of the forms, transforming the materials so that they translate into pieces that last over time.

In this sense, my characteristic and objective as a designer is to try to see and interpret the connection between product and people.

2) What are your main inspirations when starting a new project?

I leave my mind free as much as possible so that there is no interference when creating, naturally the affective memories present in the cognitive psychology of forms have an important weight, in which they often end up guiding the traits in the contemplation of new products.

3) In a project, which phase do you like the most?

The beginning is undoubtedly the most enchanting phase, as the freedom to create the drawing by hand opens up an infinity of possibilities. I can say that the end also has a very important weight, because it is at this stage that we stamp the characteristics that will forge the object's identity forever.

4) For you, what are the main differentials of Brazilian design?

The representation of Brazilian design is clear through the diversity of raw materials found here, as well as memorable contexts of each region, rich in stories and culture.

5) Salva uses one of the most noble, durable and timeless raw materials in its products: leather. Tell us a little about what it's like to work applying this material to your pieces.

I see leather as an element to be cut into a piece. Turning this artifact that has been used for thousands of years into a contemporary item requires, first of all, respect for the material, having to be directly involved with its nobility and slenderness.

6) A life with more design is...

The premise of design is to solve problems, to see solutions, be they design, aesthetic, functional or ergonomic. Design surrounds us daily, is a factor of change every second, dictates trends, makes our lives easier and issues demands. For me, it is a medium in which I can communicate my vision of the world, telling stories, exposing my characteristics and imprinting an identity.
