Interview

1) When we look at your designed pieces, what do we see?  What do you think is your main designer identifying element?

What each one sees in my designed pieces it’s very personal. Many times, the references that each person has it’s related to their life baggage, which I feel is the main interpretation and imagination leader over the message the author wants to communicate when developing a unique design or piece of art. But referencing the pieces I create, there’s a prevailing characteristic on most of them, that is the geometry in their primary format: point, line, plain and space. I’m an analog designer. I draw every design on paper before imputing it to the computer, and in many of my designs I use manual drawing techniques such as water coloring, wood cutting and other freehand techniques.

2) What are your main inspirations to start a new project?

On each project I access references from places I’ve been, books I’ve read, movies I’ve seen and various nuances that permeate my personal and professional living. My main inspirations come from outdoors, nature and ludic environments.

3) What part of a project fascinates you the most?

Seeing the piece made, ready and “well solved” it’s very gratifying.

4) In your vision, what are the main differentials from the Brazilian design style?

The Brazilian design it’s very enriched by multiple talents, and its expansion already conquered the world. The diversity of our territory provides unique aesthetics and materials, and in my understanding that’s the main differential aspect in the Brazilian design. Besides, creativity is a infinite tool, and it’s what differentiate and capacitates social and economic changes and transformations throughout design.

5) Salva utilizes in its products the noblest, durable and timeless raw materials: leather. Tell us a little about using those materials applied on your pieces.

Salva it’s without a doubt a high reference when talking about leather. Having the opportunity to work with leather in a piece made by a specialized company is having the certainty that the process till its finishing will be impeccable, uniting characteristics that assemble value to the final piece.

6) A life with more design is…

If we talk about “a life with more design focused thoughts, that life is creative and productive. If we talk about “a life with more design of things or copies from other things already made, with no truth, study or references, simply to supply a costumer’s demand,” then it would be a boring life. Everything depends on the necessity and point of view of each person. I personally prefer the first life, because more and more the consumer will choose to know the supplier that is selling to him, its purposes, how the product was produced, by who, if the company is paying its care for the environment and more. It’s a “no-way-back” kind of bridge to be constructed between designers, specifiers, producers and the customer.
